SARAH PRATT PHOTOGRAPHY {Farm Day Minis: the results} Boston Childrens Photographer

A week ago today, I sat at Chamberlain Farm in Berkley, waiting for the rain to stop.  Praying for the rain to stop, so we could have a great day with our first ever mini sessions.  But, that just wasn’t in the cards.  Since my schedule is so booked for the next few months and rescheduling looks unlikely, I welcomed any brave souls that wanted to, to come down and get a few shots in between showers.  We pretty much had three very short breaks in the rain to fit four groups in.

View the results!

Mini session participants: Email me at sarah@sarahprattphotography.com if you’d like to order prints or holiday cards with any of the images in the slideshow. Remember, images will only be posted for seven days. Orders places outside of seven days will require a minimum order of $100.

Sarah Pratt Photography {Polo anyone?} Boston Lifestyle Photographer

If you’ve never been to a polo match, put it on your bucket list!  I’m serious.  It’s the best of football tailgating, brought field side.  You just hang out, have a great time and watch the game (the people watching is quite fun as well). It’s a must experience.

Anyway, I went a couple of weekend’s ago and not only did I discover it’s a new favorite sport to watch, but that Glen Farm, where its held in RI, is an amazing place for a session!  My friend Katie helped me test it out.  :)  The sun was shining bright while we were there and we made due, but I can only imagine how perfect it would be during the “magic” hours before sunset!

And a little impromptu wardrobe change…

And since it was really about the polo match… its only right I include a few to prove that’s actually where we were. :)

Side bar - gotta love when WordPress won’t let you line photos up correctly…

Sarah Pratt Photography {Blessed with Blues} Boston Childrens Photographer

From the moment I first saw this little guy’s combo of baby blues and eye lashes, I HAD to photograph them!  In the process, I think we found OshKosh Bgosh a new little face!

We couldn’t have done it without the other cute faces behind the camera making him smile.  This one is for mom.  One of my favorites!

Sarah Pratt Photography {A Very Happy Father’s Day} Boston Newborn Photography

I had the pleasure of spending Father’s Day morning with a brand new dad, mom and baby girl (have I mentioned 2010 seems to be the year of girls? 2009 was all boys!)  I’m pretty sure this dad was having a great first Father’s Day with his “Sweetie” baby girl.

Here’s a quick sneak… I LOVE when we can get newborns outside!

Way Over Due! {Sarah Pratt Photography - Boston Children’s Photographer}

This post is beyond overdue!

Mary and Katie have been my muses since before I started my photography business and were actually part of my inspiration to start it.  I think the first time I photographed Mary was right after she lost her hair the first time about three years ago.  It’s come and gone several times since then and is gone again.  But who needs hair anyway?  She got a great wig from someone so we played around with it and hats and had a blast.

In loving memory

On Friday evening, we received word that there was a plane crash in Belize, killing our family friend Jill, her husband Mike and their two children who I photographed this summer, Makayla, 3 yrs and Bryce, 7 months.  It still feels like this is just one scary dream.  So many hearts are broken over the devestating loss of such a young and wonderful family planning to permanently return to the United States in the near future.

Looking through the photos I took of Makayla and Bryce this summer when Bryce was just 3 weeks old, I can’t help but think of the interaction that went into each image I captured.  It turned into more of a shoot for Makayla and we had such fun.  She was such a sweet little girl - just like her mom.  I feel so fortunate to have captured just a few images of Jill with the kids.  I’m so sad we didn’t get Mike in there and the four of them together.  They were waiting for this coming summer to take photos of all the grandkids at the beach, so the fact that I got Jill to jump into a few despite her grumbles, is such a blessing.  They capture Jill as a mom so perfectly.

Please count your blessings.  And keep in your thoughts this young family taken too soon and the family & friends that will miss them terribly.

Michael Casey, 32, his wife, Jillian Schuessler Casey, 32, of Marion, MA and their two children, Makayla, 3, and Bryce, 7 months, were killed when their plane, piloted by Sir Barry Bowen, crashed while approaching San Pedro Airport. Mechanical difficulties led to the crash.

Jillian Casey was the daughter of Linda and the late Dr. Peter Schuessler of Marion.

Michael and Jillian were 1999 graduates of St. Michael’s College in Vt. and left for Belize in 2001 to become leaders of the 75-student Community School located in the rain-forest village of Gallon Jug. Mike was the school’s principal while Jill was the 3rd and 4th grade teacher. They dedicated their professional lives to educating and improving the lives of the children of Gallon Jug, including raising scholarship funds to send some of their better students to American schools.

Mike was a 1995 graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, NY where he lettered in varsity hockey. He graduated from St. Michael’s with a dual major in political science and environmental studies. While working in Belize, Mike became president of World’s Windows, Inc. of Albany, a charity that has ties around the world. The organization focuses on “health education and the creation of self-sustaining communities and empowerment for all people.” Mike was dedicated to his family and to the health and education of the world’s children. He was recently accepted by the State University of New York at Albany to pursue an Advanced Graduate Certificate in School Building and Leadership.

Jillian Schuessler Casey graduated from Bishop Stang H.S. in 1995 where she played varsity basketball. She was a dean’s list student at St. Michael’s, graduating with a B.S. in psychology. “Miss Jill” was cherished by the villagers of Gallon Jug for her grace and her loving heart, but especially for her Christmas musical productions which pulled the whole village together. The only thing more important to Jill than the health and safety of her village children was the devotion she had for her own children, Makayla and Bryce.

Mike and Jill were married in a garden ceremony on a hillside in Gallon Jug in January, 2006. They shared an adventurous spirit and spent much of their free time hiking, horseback riding, sailing, and exploring the many habitats of Belize. They were both accomplished skiers and shared a love of bird watching, botany, music, and family vacations. They were devoted to their large families who had looked forward to their permanent return, with their two beautiful children, to the United States.

SARAH PRATT PHOTOGRAPHY {Happy New Year!!} Boston Family Photographer Boston Lifestyle Photographer Boston Childrens Photographer

Happy New Year!!

Two thousand nine was one heck of a year and I am truly blessed to have had the privilege to meet and photograph so many wonderful newborns, children, seniors and families.  Looking back on the last year, I’m a little nervous about how I can possibly do it all over again, but I know this year has even bigger and better things in store.  Its been a busy last couple of months so I’ve decided to take the month of January off from scheduling sessions and take some time to relax and reflect, rejuvenate my creative juices and rework the product offerings for the next year.  I can’t wait to share with everyone the exciting new boutique items that will be offered - albums that will make you drool, wall displays that will leave house guests speechless, and maybe even digital files!

While I’m not scheduling sessions for January, be sure to contact me if you’d like to schedule as session for February or March and beyond.  Its never too soon to get on the schedule!

Well, without further adieu, here is my 2009 holiday card (this is a flat version of the trifold card that it is).
Thank you again for making it a year to remember!
