SARAH PRATT PHOTOGRAPHY {Dallas} Boston Family Photographer

Last week I visited a dear friend in Dallas, Texas. We were long overdue to catch up and it was great to hang out with her and the kiddos and enjoy some time away from the normal grind.

If you ever visit Dallas, I highly recommend visiting the Arboretum. It is heaven on earth, especially for a photographer! Despite being a bit too hot for me (98 degrees and a 50lb camera bag mid-day aren’t a great combo), it was worth every once of sweat! I’m already scheming a trip back in “cooler” weather. :) Check out these pics of my amazing hostess and her cherubs.

PSAs- Massachusetts needs Pei Wei to come to the state (Imagine PF Changs on a budget! AMAZING!) and a Whole Foods like the meca in Dallas! :)

I must preface this post by saying I’ve never made a business change like this “mid-season.”  However, the idea came to me a few weeks ago and when you know something is right, you just have to go with it! So… today, I proudly present my new logo, in honor of the bravest girl I’ve ever known, Mary. Its hard to believe six months ago today she earned her angel wings. Not ONE day goes by that I don’t think of her. I look for ladybugs and signs that she’s with me all the time. Everything orange reminds me of her, along with a slew of songs that are “Mary songs” and make think of her smiling and singing. And now, I have the most perfect logo ever!

An angel on earth earned her heavenly wings yesterday after the most courageous four and a half year battle with cancer. I could go on and on about this amazing child and all she’s brought to my life (including the man that I hope will one day be my husband) during the last 5 years, but I will keep this short.

I started as her mom’s friend, but Mary quickly corrected her mom and said, “She’s MY friend Sarah.” It has been an honor to share in so many memories with her family over these years and to capture the true spirit of Mary for them to hold close forever. She has touched so many lives in her short 8 years, but in our hearts she will always live. As one friend said, “I am a better person for having known Mary.” And I can’t agree more. She was filled with an abundance of spunk and love and truly made my world (and many others) a better place.

I‘ll leave you with one of many of my favorite Mary stories… When she was 4 or so, she always liked to ask me about kids and did I have any. She’d find so many ways to ask the same question. My favorite was, “Do you have any kids?” I replied, “Nope, not yet, but I hope to someday.” Her sweet response that required no thought at all, “Well you have a Mary and a Katie!” And she couldn’t have been more right. I will forever have a Mary and a Katie.

Miss you already sweet girl… view my photo tribute here.

SARAH PRATT PHOTOGRAPHY {Not my regular type of photo shoot} Boston Pet Photographer

I’ll be honest; I was never much of a pet lover. That was, until I got my own dog… But even then, almost a year ago when we rescued our black lab, I had rules for the dog that were not to be broken- after all he was a dog. Well… lets just say all the rules except eating table scraps have indeed been broken because this dog has stolen our hearts and is loved like the child we don’t have. Yes, we’re THOSE type of dog owners. I know, I’m a bit ashamed myself, but I love every minute of it. :) So now, when I tell you what I did yesterday, it should not come as that much of a surprise… ha!

Yesterday I woke up at 4:30 AM and joined my two *boys* for a duck hunting adventure. Two things I probably would have put money on never doing a year ago. But, ever since Smokey brought his first duck back a few weeks ago, I was eager to join them and do some shooting of my own ;) . I have to say, while the wake up call was tough, once we got out there, it was beautiful. There were no duck retrieves, but I did get some new favorite photos.  Who knows, maybe we’ll even get his mug on the cover of a Delta Waterfowl Magazine! I know I’m a bit bias, but there is no denying he is one handsome dog! :)

See what I mean??

I just realized the other day, this is our first fall with Smokey. He’s so loved and makes our family of three, its like we’ve had him forever, but it really was just last January we got him. So of course that means we have no fall photos of him! :) There will probably be more once we rake tomorrow, but for now, here are a few from our Wildland Trust adventure today.

There just still might be hope for him to be a hunting dog after all!

SARAH PRATT PHOTOGRAPHY {A simple wish} Boston Childrens Photographer

The other day, I stumbled across this photo from my very first blog post. One I took the year prior to that as I was getting to know how to use my camera with my favorite models – Mary and Katie. Technically, its not perfect, but what it captures is more than perfect to me and those lucky enough to know Mary.

I think about this image and the words I wrote nearly three years ago, at least once a day. And I wish. I wish harder than I ever thought possible.

Tonight, I ask you to join me in wishing, praying, what ever you can do, for my girl Mary and her family. She has kept her spunk and sweetness, and has lots of love, but needs the rest of my wishes to come true. She has been fighting hepatoblastoma for over four years and she needs our wish to come true!

If you’ve never been to a polo match, put it on your bucket list!  I’m serious.  It’s the best of football tailgating, brought field side.  You just hang out, have a great time and watch the game (the people watching is quite fun as well). It’s a must experience.

Anyway, I went a couple of weekend’s ago and not only did I discover it’s a new favorite sport to watch, but that Glen Farm, where its held in RI, is an amazing place for a session!  My friend Katie helped me test it out.  :)   The sun was shining bright while we were there and we made due, but I can only imagine how perfect it would be during the “magic” hours before sunset!

And a little impromptu wardrobe change…

And since it was really about the polo match… its only right I include a few to prove that’s actually where we were. :)

Side bar – gotta love when WordPress won’t let you line photos up correctly…
